Hey Friends! As I began to spiral, I got an idea with some funny little cartoons I’ve been working on. The backstory:

My aunt Sue always manages to send post cards at the right time. My wife and I LOVE getting mail from Aunt Sue. She sometimes includes pictures from the past and motivational words. She often shares her adventures with us so we can travel with her. She has told me several times in my life to tell my story, as I’ve always been rather…eccentric.

Bruce Bartz is a fantastic human being put on this planet to bring awareness to such a sensitive topic… Suicide. Bruce is real, understanding, and everything a person should be to make a difference in the world of mental health. He runs Bartz Brigade a non profit that promotes the education, awareness, and prevention of suicide. I have been blessed with the opportunity to do some graphic design for Bartz Brigade. Bruce gave me a shot when nobody else would. Bruce saw me for well….. me. Plus I made him a coffee mug featuring a Christmas Eve blunder. iykyk

My grandfather passed away. Wilson “Dick” (don’t ask) Hershey was everything a man should be. Kind, tough, gentle, accepting, and grateful. Pappy was also…eccentric. One of my fondest memories is of him rummaging through the camper in alligator shorts. After a snow storm I showed up at my grandparent’s house to find pappy inside of an igloo he built. We hung out in this igloo for what felt like hours, him with his giant VHS tape recorder on his shoulder. One fine night as an adult in my 20s I found myself in a midst of a bit of a breakdown and a ball of heightened emotions which woke him from his sleep… Pappy hugged me harder than anyone has ever hugged me in my life and told me “do whatever you need to do to get better” since that day… I have! and I made a few interesting stops along the way.

I started making cartoons recently to practice some design skills and a lot of them have come out as what appears to be stories of me trying to get through social life without alcohol. Stories of how people with overactive minds try to relax… more coming soon. All proceeds will be donated to causes like suicide awareness and brain cancer research…. More to come.
